01The short version

I build technology companies, space systems and institutions for frontiers that matter.

I am a Pakistani deep-tech entrepreneur, space technologist, astronomer and explorer. Over more than two decades, I have built and scaled product companies across artificial intelligence, big data, image processing, cloud security, fintech, digital trust and logistics. Today, I am building GreenSign and Antology alongside the space-technology ventures Mareekh Dynamics and SCOOP—following earlier successful exits that include Foree, which I founded, and Elastica, which I helped build and scale.

In space technology, I co-lead ventures working toward long-term human habitation on Mars and safer operations in Earth orbit. I am a named inventor on the granted US patent for SCOOP’s networked space-debris detection and mitigation system, and I help translate ambitious concepts such as CraterHab into working engineering demonstrators.

I built Pakistan’s first fully automated privately owned domed observatory, direct operations at Taqwa Space Observatory, and serve as Co-Founder and President of the Karachi Astronomers Society—one of Pakistan’s largest astronomy communities. In parallel, I have traced and documented more than 100 mud volcanoes and vents across Balochistan, earning the unofficial title “Mud Volcano Man of Pakistan.”

The common thread is simple: go where the map ends, understand the system, then build what is missing.

Co-Founder & CTO · Habitat systems for extreme environments

Engineering for Mars. Proving it on Earth.

At Mareekh Dynamics, I help turn the CraterHab™ concept into buildable technology: large-volume pressurized habitat systems conceived for Mars and the Moon, with practical applications in high-altitude, low-pressure environments on Earth.

The system combines inflatable habitat architecture with radiation protection and in-situ power concepts. Its Earth pathway targets safer living and working conditions for high-altitude communities, climbers and mining operations, including planned deployments through CraterHab Chile.

The Mareekh portfolio is protected by three active US patents covering inflatable habitat architecture, hybrid power generation and the CraterHab industrial design. The records name Dr Muhammad Akbar Hussain as inventor and Mareekh Design Pty Ltd—the legal entity behind Mareekh Dynamics—as assignee or owner.

MY ENGINEERING CONTRIBUTION

From concept to a working demonstrator

I supervised the Pakistani engineering team that constructed a 2-metre CraterHab technology demonstrator. The prototype sustained 1.4 bar absolute pressure—0.4 bar above ambient—advancing the technology to TRL 4 through component-level validation.

Known in adventure circles as Pakistan’s “Mud Volcano Man”

Mapping a landscape that barely had a map.

What began as a childhood fascination became years of field research across the remote, Martian-like plateaus of Balochistan. I have traced and contributed data for roughly 100–150 mud volcanoes and vents.

Mount Mehdi

I co-led an 18-member amateur expedition to a massive undocumented active mud volcano. My friend and PakWheels founder Hanif Bhatti named the 1,450-foot formation Mount Mehdi in recognition of the fieldwork behind the discovery.

The expedition also documented an extraordinary 3.5-kilometre “mud glacier”: a moving field of mud, jagged formations and cave-like structures formed above fresh flows beneath the crust.

05Fields of work

One mind.
Many lenses.

I am most useful on problems that refuse to stay inside a single discipline. These are the recurring territories in my work.

Building instruments, institutions and access to the night sky.

In 2013, I built the Karachi Space Observatory, Pakistan’s first fully automated privately owned domed observatory, centered on a 12-inch Ritchey-Chrétien telescope. I am Director of Taqwa Space Observatory, Pakistan’s largest space observatory, and Co-Founder and President of the Karachi Astronomers Society.

In Australia, I co-founded the Southern Cross Outreach Observatory Project and participated in public-outreach operations in remote outback communities. That work evolved into SCOOP: a synchronized mobile-observatory concept for detecting, tracing and tracking debris in low Earth orbit.

“The frontier is not a place. It is the edge of what we can observe, understand and build.”
08How I think

Curiosity needs
structure.

Difficult questions are worth pursuing, but answers become valuable when they can be expressed clearly, tested honestly and applied thoughtfully.

01

Think in systems

See the whole, understand the constraints and connections, then choose the smallest coherent intervention.

02

Build for reality

A useful idea must survive contact with operations, people, imperfect data and limited resources.

03

Cross boundaries

Useful insight often appears where engineering, business, science and human behavior meet.

04

Make complexity legible

Clear models and language turn difficult systems into decisions people can act upon.
